Gabriel Huber clinches match for Wisconsin, which has won three of its last four
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The Wisconsin men's tennis team left Bloomington with another conference victory after the Badgers scored a 4-3 win over Indiana on Friday.
The Badgers (10-9, 4-2 Big Ten) won for the third time in their last four matches and, in the process, denied the Hoosiers (5-14, 0-6) their first Big Ten win. The victory snapped Indiana's four-match win streak in the series.
Wisconsin got off to a promising start with Mihailo Popovic and Lenard Soha working seamlessly in doubles play. They quickly took their match over Michael Andre and Nishanth Basavareddy 6-1, to give the Badgers an early edge in the battle for the doubles point.
To bring it home and clinch the point, Tim Dhzurinskiy and Jared Pratt got their third straight win as a duo. They defeated Ilya Tiraspolsky and Patrick Fletchall in a 6-3 decision to put the Badgers ahead 1-0 going into singles play.
For the second straight week, Pratt secured the first singles win of the match for the Badgers. This time, he did it in straight sets at No. 1 singles and defeated Indiana's Carson Haskins 6-1, 6-0 to put Wisconsin up 2-0.
Sebastian Vile grabbed the third point of the match to extend the Wisconsin lead. He secured a 6-2, 6-1 win against Vikash Singh for his second straight singles win, and 12th of the season overall.
With wins at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 the Hoosiers tied the match at 3-3 and it all came down to junior Gabriel Huber for Wisconsin. After comfortably taking the first set 6-3, Huber's opponent, Luka Vukovic, came storming back in the second and won 6-1 to force a third set. Huber dropped the first game, down 1-0, but he was able to perform under pressure and deliver a gritty third set for his teammates, winning 6-3 and securing that fourth and final point for the Badger victory.
