"The Crazylegs Classic is a long-standing tradition at Wisconsin and we are thrilled to have Sarah Nurse serve as the Grand Marshal for this year's event," UW Director of Athletics Chris McIntosh said. "As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Title IX this year, it is even more meaningful to have Sarah back in Madison. She was an accomplished student-athlete with our women's hockey program and has gone on to professional and international success as well, winning an Olympic gold medal in Beijing earlier this year. We're proud of Sarah and look forward to her helping us kick off this spring's Crazylegs event."
A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Nurse starred for the Badgers from 2013-17 and led UW to four WCHA championship titles - two regular-season and two tournament - in her four years in Madison. A 2017 All-American, Nurse was a part of four NCAA Frozen Four teams and was the 22nd player in school history to record 100 career points. The winger became the first Badger to record a hat trick against Minnesota and also ranks in the top-10 in school history in goals scored.
Nurse made her mark on the world stage following her career at UW, winning gold with Team Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympics and setting the women's record for the most points recorded in a single Olympic tournament with 18. She also led Canada to gold at the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship and won silver with Team Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
