SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Badgers brought their Wisconsin renowned "Team. Trust. Toughness." to Saratoga Springs, fighting dreary and rainy weather to duel against Yale, Princeton and Syracuse.
Kristen Thorsness, 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist and U.S. Rowing Hall of Famer, brought her own Badger pride to the course to watch the Second Varsity Eight race in the "Kristen Thorsness" - a Wisconsin boat named after the alumna.
With Lake Mendota open in Madison, the Badgers snuck a few practices on the water before traveling east to take advantage of another chance to test their progress against some gritty competition.
"We got a lot of needed race experience today in all three boats. While we weren't psyched about the results, the experience was necessary to make the changes and improvements in speed that are coming," said Head Coach
Bebe Bryans.
While the results may not speak to the progress Wisconsin continues to fight for, Bryans looks forward to more racing, more speed and more striving for the top.
"We have a short week before the BIG Invite and…[we're] are confident we can make some big gains in a very short time. Thanks to Princeton, Yale and Syracuse for the racing!," said Bryans.
