Boston College transfer signs with Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. – Head coach Kelly Sheffield announced that Gabby McCaa, a 6-foot-3 middle blocker / right-side hitter, will join the national championship Wisconsin volleyball team this fall. McCaa joins the Badgers after spending three years at Boston College.
"I'm really excited to be able to announce that Gabby is a Badger," Sheffield said. "I got to know her and her family when she was younger while visiting campus and coming to camp. She knows what our program is about. Not only will she fit in with the culture of this team, but she'll come in ready to work.Â
"Gabby's played in a lot of college matches up to this point so I like the match experience she brings to the table. Although I anticipate her being a middle for us, I like the flexibility of her also being able to play on the right. She'll also be here all summer working with Kevin Schultz and our strength staff, and also be in the gym with our players, so that'll really benefit her in her transition and getting ready for the season."
As a junior, McCaa led the Eagles in blocks, averaging 0.98 per set. She had a career-high 11 blocks vs. Virginia, recording five-or-more blocks in 10 matches. McCaa hit .256, averaging 0.73 kills per set. She also tied for second on the team with 26 service aces, averaging 0.22 per set.
During the 2020 season, McCaa averaged 1.21 blocks and 0.93 kills per set while hitting .296. As a freshman, she averaged 0.68 kills and 0.64 blocks per set.
For her career, McCaa played in 79 matches and 255 sets. She averaged 0.9 blocks and 0.8 kills while hitting .249.
A native of Minneapolis, McCaa played two years at St. Louis Park High School and two years at Minneapolis Southwest High School. She was a two-time all-conference selection and four-time Minnesota State High School All-League selection. McCaa also played with Northern Lights, being named a Prep Volleyball Top 50 junior recruit in 2017 and ranked No. 69 on the 2018 Prep Volleyball Senior Aces.
