UW opens season ranked No. 3 in WCHA Preseason Coaches’ Poll
MADISON, Wis. – For the second-straight season, the Wisconsin women's hockey program saw a player earn WCHA Preseason Rookie of the Year honors after freshman Caroline Harvey received the recognition on Tuesday.
A member of the 2022 IIHF Women's World Championship All-Media Team, Harvey, a 2022 Olympian, earned six of a possible eight votes to become the seventh player in school history to earn league preseason rookie accolades after Marianne Picard and Sarah Wozniewicz shared the honor last year. Fellow UW freshman Kirsten Simms picked up the other two votes in this year's vote.
The Badgers open the season ranked No. 3 in the WCHA Preseason Coaches' Poll, a day after the team checked in at No. 3 in the USCHO National Poll. The Badgers earned 42 votes and two first-place tallies, while Minnesota collected 44 votes and three first-place votes and Ohio State picked up 43 votes and three first-place nods.
Five Badgers - forwards Jesse Compher, Britta Curl and Lacey Eden and defenders Harvey and Nicole LaMantia - collected votes on the Preseason All-WCHA Team.
The No. 3 Badgers open their 2022-23 campaign on the road at No. 14 Penn State next Thursday and Friday. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. both nights at Pegula Ice Arena in University Park, Pennsylvania.
