Wisconsin remains on the road as it heads to West Lafeyette
MADISON, Wis. -Â The Wisconsin women's soccer team is coming off of a dominant win against the Iowa Hawkeyes and look to continue their successful Big Ten start against the Boilmakers Thursday at Purdue.Â
FIVE THINGS TO KNOW:
1. LAST TIME OUT: After a quiet first half going down 1-0, the Badgers found their mark in the next 45 against Iowa as they scored three goals within a five-minute span. Emma Jaskaniec, Aryssa Mahrt, and Natalie Viggiano were the ones to put the Badgers on the board and secure the teams first Big Ten win.
2. YOUNG IMPACT: In the last two games it has been the underclassmen making a difference on the field for the Badgers. Freshman Rylee Howard was the one to weave her way through the Hawkeyes' defense, setting up the second goal of the match to give Wisconsin the go-ahead goal. As the Badgers took on NIU, sophomores Adee Boer, Riley Philbin, and Aidan McConnell all added a point to the stat sheet as well.Â
3. PAST WITH PURDUE: The Badgers and the Boilmakers have a back and forth history since their first game in 2001. Wisconsin holds the upper hand as they come into the match 11-10 against Purdue, however, the Badgers have not won a match against the West Lafayette team since October of 2019.
4. SUCCESS ON THE ROAD: Although, the Badgers have not won against Purdue in their past three matchups there has been a common theme in all of them - they were all home games. Wisconsin is 3-7-1 while playing at McClimon against the Boilmakers, however, are 7-3-1 at Purdue.
5. WHO TO WATCH: Gracie Dunway leads Purdue with four goals and ten points eight games into the season. Dunway is coming off of a successful freshman season as she started every game and led the team in assists. Kayla Budish is in her first year playing collegiate soccer, and has added four points to her stat sheet with two assists and one goal.
Following the Purdue matchup, the Badgers will return home to face Indiana for their first Big Ten matchup at McClimon this year at 1 p.m.
