Hepburn and Crowl score 20 points each in defeat
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Chucky Hepburn and Steven Crowl combined to score 42 points, but Wisconsin suffered a 79-69 defeat on the road against a hot-shooting Illinois team on Saturday.
In a meeting of last season's co-champions of the Big Ten regular season title, the Badgers (11-3, 3-1 Big Ten) suffered their first conference loss of the season, while the Illini (10-5, 1-3 B1G) earned their first league win.
UW was without leading scorer Tyler Wahl, who was unable to play due to injury.
Wisconsin shot just 27.6 percent (8-for-29) from 3-point range, while Illinois was 52.6 percent (10-for-19).
The Illini were led by 24 points from Terrence Shannon Jr. and 20 points from Coleman Hawkins, who hit six triples in the game.
Up next, Wisconsin returns home to face Michigan State on Tuesday. Tip is set for 6 p.m. at the Kohl Center, and a limited number of tickets are available.
