MADISON, Wis. – In the last road match of the regular season, the Wisconsin men's soccer team, 4-4-5 (1-2-3 Big Ten), will play their second of two-straight road conference games, this time traveling to Columbus to play the Ohio State Buckeyes, 3-5-5 (1-3-1 Big Ten). With just two points separating the two teams, and the Badger just four points out of the conference's top spot, the crucial match will take place Friday, Oct. 20, and will kick off at 6 p.m. CT.
Here's what you need to know before the game.
1 – From the Corner – Despite the 2-1 loss to Rutgers in their last game, the Badgers still managed to shoot more corners than their opponent. The corner kick is a huge part of the team's offense this season -- UW has taken more corners than their opponent in all but one of its games. The only team in the conference that has taken more corners is, fittingly enough, Ohio State.
2 – Markie's Good Vibrations – Freshman Markie Hrvojevic played a great game against Rutgers last time out. His no-look pass set up Thomas Raimbault's lone goal for the Badgers. Hrvojevic also nearly had a goal himself, but it was called back on a close offsides call.
Â
3 – Buckeyes v. Badgers – While the Badgers have a narrow lead in the all-time series against Ohio State, 19-17-3, it's been all Wisconsin in recent years, winning eight straight matches going back to 2016. Tim Bielic and Jack Finnegan played in the last three of those matches, with Bielic picking up an assist and Finnegan scoring a goal in last season's match.
Â
4 – Observing Ohio State – While Ohio State has been adept at preventing shots on goal, just 3.4 allowed per game, they've had issues in net with the worst save percentage in the conference, along with the fewest saves. It's led to the Buckeyes giving up the third-most goals in the conference. Offensively, OSU is middle of the pack in terms of goals scored but has picked it up in the second half of the season, scoring 10 goals in its last seven games, compared to just four goals in their first six.
5 – Playing for Home – The top four teams of the conference will play host to quaterfinal games in the Big Ten Tournament. With two conference matches remaining, Wisconsin is just two points away from the fourth spot, with three other teams in the mix: Rutgers, Michigan and Indiana. Wisconsin has not hosted a conference tournament game since 2018.
Extra Time – Friday's game against will stream on the B1G+ app, as well as bigtenplus.com. Live updates can be found on the @BadgerMSoccer X page – formerly twitter, as well as @badgermsoccer on Instagram.
