Badger duo led UW to an 8-0-0 record in October
MADISON, Wis. – Following an undefeated month, Wisconsin women's hockey senior Britta Curl and freshman Ava McNaughton received WCHA October monthly awards, the league announced Tuesday.Â
Both players picked up their first honors of the season as Curl was named the WCHA Forward of the Month and McNaughton was honored as the WCHA Rookie of the Month.Â
Captain of the Badgers, Curl, posted an impressive 20 points on nine goals and 11 assists throughout UW's eight games in October. The Bismarck, North Dakota, native paced the team in points, blocks shots and plus/minus during the month. She recorded six multi-point games, as well as a goal in each game during the month. The senior is currently tied for the school record for longest goal streak with goals in her last nine games.Â
McNaughton, a Seven Fields, Pennsylvania, native, earned a perfect 4-0-0 record throughout her second month as a Badger. The rookie's two shutouts were tied for the second most among WCHA netminders, and she was one of only three WCHA goalies to post a goals-against average below 1.00 during the month. Her .953 save percentage ranked third among the league and was the best of any freshman.Â
It marks the second-straight month UW has had a student-athlete earn WCHA Player of the Month honors as Lacey Eden was named the WCHA Forward of the Month for September and Caroline Harvey was selected as the WCHA Defender of the Month for September.Â
The Badgers will continue their road streak with a series against St. Cloud on Friday and Saturday. Friday's puck drop is set for 3 p.m., while Saturday's series finale will start at 1 p.m. Both games will air on 1070 AM while Saturday's game can be seen in the Madison area on TVW.Â
