
Five Things to Know: The Nuttycombe Returns

Badgers to welcome 22 ranked teams to Madison on Friday
MADISON, Wis. – The No.23 Wisconsin women's cross country team continues its season as this week marks the annual Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour on Friday, October 13, at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.
The women's championship 6K race will begin at 11 a.m., while the women's "B" race starts at 12:20 p.m. Spectator parking for the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, the Big Ten Championships and the NCAA Great Lakes Regional will be located at Blackhawk Church in Middleton, Wisconsin.Spectator shuttles are available for transportation to the course. One accessible shuttle will be available. The shuttle service, which is free this season, begins at 9 a.m. and concludes one hour after the final race has finished. Fans are encouraged to arrive early so you don't miss any of the action!
Here are five things to know before Friday's event:
1. THE NUTTY RETURNS: Following another successful outing two weekends ago at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational, taking third place with 94 points, the women's cross country team is eager to return back to their home course. Friday's race will mark the 14th Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational that UW has hosted at the Zimmer Championship course and is sure to be a can't-be-missed event.
2. EYEING UP THE COMPETITION: 33 teams will compete in the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour. Of those 36 teams, 22 of them are ranked in the top 30 in the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association National Coaches' Poll. Six of those teams in the ranks are ranked in the top 10.
3. BADGERS TO WATCH: Racing at The Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational will include Badgers who have led the pack so far this season. Junior Leané Willemse is back competing for the Badgers after last running at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational, covering the 6k course in 20 minutes, 05.13 seconds for a 10th-place finish. Another Badger to watch out for is graduate student Victoria Heiligenthal, who led UW at the Badger Classic, running the 5.2-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 18.6 seconds for sixth place.

UP NEXT: Following the Nuttycombe Invitational presented by Under Armour, the Badgers open postseason racing staying in Madison as they host the 2023 Big Ten Cross Country Championship on Friday, Oct. 27; racing begins at 11:45 a.m. at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.
