Wisconsin records 39 NCAA cuts and 15 top-10 marks

AUSTIN, Texas -- The 12th-ranked Wisconsin women's swimming team wrapped up the Texas Invitational on Saturday with 14 more NCAA qualifying times as well as four top-10 performances. On the week, the Badgers recorded 39 NCAA cuts and 15 top-10 marks.

Two NCAA 'A' qualifying times

Senior Phoebe Bacon recorded the only individual automatic NCAA qualifying time, winning the 200 backstroke in 1 minute, 50.36 seconds. Junior MacKenzie McConagha earned a 'B' cut in the event, finishing seventh in 1:55.62.

Bacon was also a part of the Badgers' 400 free relay that earned an NCAA 'A' qualifying time. She teamed with Hailey Tierney, Abby Wanezek and Sophie Fiske to touch in 3:13.79 for fifth place. The time is also the fifth-fastest time in Uw history.

Other top-eight finishes

Wisconsin claimed five of the top-seven places in the 1650 freestyle, earning five NCAA 'B' cuts. Junior Paige McKenna earned a runner-up finish in 15:54.95. Freshman Maddie Waggoner made her collegiate debut in the event, taking fourth in 16:03.52, which is the sixth-fastest time in UW history. Sophomore Blair Stoneburg, senior Alivia Lindorfer and senior Elle Braun swept the fifth through seventh places, respectively. Stoneburg touched in 16:07.46, Lindorfer finished in 16:10.08 and Braun ended in 16:10.08.

UW also earned four NCAA 'B' qualifying times in the 100 freestyle. Tierney finished in 48.60, which ties her for ninth all-time at Wisconsin. Wanezek touched in 49.09 for 14th while Fiske was 16th in 49.34. Abby Carlson completed the list of qualifiers, taking 17th in 49.28.

Sophomore Hazal Ozkan recorded a personal best in the 200 breaststroke, finishing third in 2:09.37. Her time is the fifth fastest in UW history.

The Badgers' other qualifying time came in the 200 butterfly where transfer Lily Gardner touched in 1:58.48 for 12th place.
