Badger drops bout to Olejnik 8-2
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Wisconsin wrestling junior Dean Hamiti lost his bout at the 2023 National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic.
Ranked No. 4 by Intermat, Hamiti was defeated in an 8-2 decision by sixth-ranked Izzak Olejnik of Oklahoma State in the event's 165-pound men's collegiate match held at Rec Hall on the Penn State campus.
The bout was scoreless through the first period with Hamiti making several leg attacks and Olejnik playing defense. Olejnik also earned a stalling call.
Hamiti started down in the second period and picked up a quick escape to take a 1-0 lead, but Olejnik rallied with a takedown for three points to lead 3-1 and also had gathered more than one minute of riding time.
Olejnik started down and earned an escape to start the third period to make it 4-1 with 1:40 left in the bout. But the Cowboy wrestler got hit with a second stall call and Hamiti collected the point to cut the lead to 4-2 with 30 seconds left on the clock. Hamiti battled and looked for multiple shots, but Olejnik held him off before getting a second takedown in the final second to make it 7-2. The riding time gave Olejnik the 8-2 decision victory.
