Badgers claim first Big Ten road loss
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Wisconsin women's basketball team (7-5, 0-2 B1G) had its first Big Ten road contest tonight, Dec. 30, against Purdue (8-5, 1-1 B1G). In the 79th meeting between the two teams, Purdue came out on top with a final score of 89-50.

How it Happened
With Serah Williams unavailable, senior guard Halle Douglass, started for the Badgers. Brooke Schramek won the tip, and the game was underway. The Boilermakers wasted no time gaining momentum, with Abbey Ellis scoring a two-point jumper. Halle Douglass went to the charity stripe to make a single free throw. The next points from the Badgers came from Natalie Leuzinger securing two additional points at the line. Leuzinger, Schramek, and Leena Patibandla put points on the board, but Purdue led the first quarter, 23-11.

A three-pointer by Leuzinger halted the Boilermakers run to open up the second quarter. Sania Copeland followed with another three. Purdue led 47-23 going into the second half.Â

Leuzinger struck for the Badgers, making a layup and a free throw to increase the score by three. Freshman Ana Guillen then checked into the game to grab two points on a turnover by the Boilermakers. Purdue still had the lead 73-35 going into the final 10 minutes.

Leuzinger was having a night, earning a career-high 15 points on a layup to open up the final quarter. D'Yanis Jimenez added three points under her name, putting two in from the paint and at the line. Tessa Grady sunk a three-pointer late in the third to aid the Badgers' score. Purdue took the win, 89-50.

Wisconsin shot 35% (18-51) from the field range, and 21% (3-14) from 3-point range, and 79% (11-14) from the free-throw line. The team finished with 24 rebounds and 11 assists.
