Paige McKenna crowned 1650 free Big Ten Champion

Wisconsin places fourth at conference championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The 24th-ranked Wisconsin women's swim and dive team wrapped up the Big Ten Conference Championships on Saturday, finishing fourth in the team standings.

No. 4 Ohio State won the championship with 1,425 points while No. 6 Indiana finished second with 1,291.5 points. Michigan placed third with 1,108 points while the Badgers scored 954 points.

McKenna wins mile, again

For the second straight year, Paige Mckenna is the Big Ten champion in the 1650 freestyle. The sophomore won the event by more than 10 seconds, hitting the wall in an NCAA "A" qualifying time of 15 minutes, 46.90 seconds. She was followed by senior Alivia Lindorfer, who placed ninth in 16:17.21, while junior Elle Braun placed 10th in 16:17.71, both earning NCAA "B" cut times. 

McConagha earns bronze

Sophomore Mackenzie McConagha was the second individual medal winner for Wisconsin on the final day of competition, placing third in the 200 back. She touched in 1:53.77 to an NCAA "B" cut. She was followed by junior Kaitlyn Schoof, who finished 19th in 1:57.82. Junior Phoebe Bacon was unable to defend her Big Ten title in the 200 back due to illness.

Other top finishers 

Continuing the momentum for the Badgers was senior Elizabeth Moore, who garnered a fourth-place finish in the 200 breast in an NCAA "B" cut time of 2:09.05. Freshman Hazal Ozkan followed with a 13th-place finish, hitting the wall in 2:13.63, also earning an NCAA "B" standard.
 
Captain and senior Mallory Jump placed fifth in the 200 fly, finishing her Big Ten championship career in 1:56.36. Fellow senior Mikayla Seigal followed with a 12th-place finish in 1:59.92, which qualifies her for the NCAA "B" standard.

The Badgers will send qualifiers to the NCAA Championships on March 15-18 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee.
