Williams Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Freshman earns the honor for the second time this season

ROSEMONT, Ill. - For the second time this season, freshman Serah Williams has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Williams is the first Badger to be named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice in one season since Taylor Wurtz accomplished the feat in the 2009-10 campaign.

The rookie from Brooklyn, New York continued to assert herself as a dominant post presence in the league, as she averaged 18.5 points per game and shot 68.2 percent from the field.

Williams started her week with her third 20-point game of the season, notching 23 points and added in four rebounds, two blocks and two steals vs. No. 10 Ohio State. She followed with 14 points, seven rebounds and tied her season high with four blocks at Rutgers.

The 6-4 forward has scored in double figures in eight straight games and leads the Badgers with an average of 13.3 points per game.

Wisconsin and Williams will return to the court Wednesday, March 8 vs. Michigan State at 6:30 p.m.
