Track teams earn top-25 finishes

Men's team finishes 16th; Women tie for 21st

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Behind two more first-team All-Americans, the Wisconsin men's track and field team finished 16th with 14 points at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday. The Badgers recorded their second-straight top-20 team finish, picking up six first-team All-America honors and three second-team All-America awards.

The UW women tied for 21st in the NCAA team race with nine points, their best finish since 2019. UW picked up two first-team All-Americans and two second-team All-Americans.

Sharp places third in 3,000 meters

Running a strategic race, redshirt junior Jackson Sharp finished third in the 3,000 meters. The Australian crossed in 7 minutes, 48.66 seconds, just half of a second out of first place. He earned his second first-team All-America honor of the meet after being a member of the third-place distance medley relay on Friday.

Sharp started out in the back of the 15-runner field slowly making his way up to fourth place with 800 meters to go. He was a part of a three-runner breakaway over the last 200 meters. Oklahoma State's Fouad Messaoudi won the race in 7:48.10 while Drew Bosley of Northern Arizona finished second in 7:48.34.

Johnson, Schaefer earn first-team All-America honors

For the second year in a row, Lawrence Johnson earned first-team All-America honors in the 60-meter dash. The Waunakee native finished seventh in 6.59.

Grad student Josie Schaefer earned her seventh All-America honor, earning first-team honors in the shot put. The Baraboo native finished fifth with a toss of 59-1 1/2.

Redshirt senior Cade Amborn earned his first All-America honor, placing 11th in the heptathlon with a personal best score of 5,840 points. His total moves his up to third on the UW performance list.

Amborn's best finish on the second day of the seven-event competition came in the pole vault where he placed sixth at 15-11 1/4, just an inch off his personal best. He also took 10th in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.14 and 12th in the 1,000 meters in a personal best time of 2:52.30.

The Badgers open the outdoor season next weekend, competing at the USF Bulls Invitational in Tampa, Florida. Events begin on Friday and Saturday at 9 a.m. CT.
