Aas leads Badgers in Georgia Southern tournament
STATESBORO, Georgia - Wisconsin finished the 43rd annual Schenkel Invitational in sixth place overall at Forest Heights Country Club.
Wisconsin card 9-over after shooting 292 as a team on Sunday and totaling 272-281-284=837. Host Georgia Southern, currently ranked No. 19 by GolfStat, continues to lead the 14-team field at 27-under, while No. 24 Mississippi State holds second place at 16-under. Five teams in the field are currently ranked among the top-50 by Golfstat (full team standings with rankings below).
Daniel Aas garnered top honors for the Badgers tying for 16th place overall with an even-par performance (71-73-72=216), aided by his hole-in-one on Friday. Teammate Cameron Huss finished closely behind at T22 with 1-over (70-74-73=217).
Round 3 - Sunday, March 19
Aas kept his score low with an even-par card on Sunday. He collected four birdies, including three in a row on holes 7, 8 and 9.
Badgers Huss and Coalter Smith finished second for the team on day with 1-over 73s. Maxime Legros finished 2-over and Clayton Tribus card a 3-over on the day.
Max Schwarz shaved five strokes off his first-round game and finished even-par 72.
Round 2 - Saturday, March 18
Wisconsin finished the second round of the Schenkel Invitational in sixth place overall following Saturday's competition at 5-over after shooting 295 as a team, losing seven strokes from Friday's opening 2-under performance.
After shooting a hole-in-one on Friday, Aas took the lead for the Badgers on Saturday with a 1-over 73. He finished round two with four birdies, cleaning up his play in the back nine with eight holes at par or birdie.
Three Badgers - Legros, Huss and Tribus - all finished 2-over 74 on the day. Over 36 holes, Aas and Huss are now tied for 21st at even-par 144. Smith rounded out the team at 4-over 76. Teammate Max Schwarz is competing as an individual and finished 5-over 77.
Round 1 - Friday, March 17
Wisconsin's strong start at the 43rd annual Schenkel Invitational saw the Badgers tied for third place overall following the first day of competition. Wisconsin finished 2-under after shooting 286 as a team and tied with Kentucky after the first 18 holes at Forest Heights Country Club.
Huss is currently tied for seventh overall with a 2-under 70 to pace the Badgers individually. Huss finished Friday with four birdies, including three on consecutive holes (3, 4 and 5) on the front nine.
Aas and Tribus both finished T-12th at 1-under 71 on the day. Aas scored a hole-in-one on par-three Hole 3 to aid his first round performance, while Tribus played strongly to par and collected two birdies.
Teammates Legros and Smith both finished T-34th at 2-over 74. Schwarz finished 5-over 77 to tie for 60th among individuals.
