Badgers shine against Stanford
April 23, 2023 | Lightweight Rowing
Wisconsin wins two of three races
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - The Wisconsin women's lightweight rowing team continued to build off of progress against No. 4 Stanford in a dual on Sunday, April 23.Â
Due to travel delays, the regatta was postponed from Saturday to Sunday. Although the team got off to a rocky start to the trip, getting stuck in Texas, the No. 6 Badgers still had a spectacular day. Wisconsin finished the day with first-place finishes in two out of three races.Â
The Wisconsin varsity four finished with a time of 7:50.9, almost eight seconds ahead of Stanford in its race. The Wisconsin double sculls also finished ahead of Stanford with a time of 8:40.4, while Stanford finished at 8:56.6. Stanford came out on top in the varsity eight race in 6:47.3 for 2000 meters.
Up next: The Badgers will travel to Worcester, Massachusetts, to compete in the Eastern Sprints on Sunday, April 30.Â

On how the weekend wentÂ
"After a tumultuous journey to get to California led by multiple canceled flights, a 3.5 hour drive from Dallas to Austin, and many delays, I would say the Badgers rallied hard. It's not an easy task to have to show up on race day after some rough travel woes and I think our team handled it very well."
"We won two out of three events and fought hard in the one race we lost. Special shoutout to our double for pulling out the 'W' with little time in the line-up and another big shoutout to our four which had three seniors in it along with a novice walk-on and executed a dominant piece. Our eight made great strides since our last race and we're hungry to keep pushing the pace and get used to racing at a higher intensity."
On improvement this season
"There's been a great shift in our mentality since our first races in Tennessee at the start of the season. The team has done a lot of work behind the scenes and today was just a taste of the progress we've made in the last few weeks."
On preparation for Eastern Sprints
"We're gonna continue to trust the process and push each other every day this week. We will fine tune as much as we can and go into next weekend with the same mindset."
