Eight Badgers compete at NCAA Outdoor Championships

MADISON, Wis. – The 17th-Wisconsin men's track and field team sends six athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Championships while the Badger women's team sends two athletes to the national championships next week. The championships will be held June 7-10 at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus in Austin, Texas.
The Badger men compete on June 7 and June 9 while the women compete on June 8 and June 10. All field events will be streamed live on ESPN+ while track events air on ESPN2.
The Wisconsin men have four athletes that rank third in their respective events, heading into the championships. Sophomore Adam Spencer enters the 1500-meter semifinals with the third-fastest time of 3 minutes, 37.73 seconds. Junior Abdullahi Hassan ranks third in the 800 meters in a season's best time of 1:46.25. In the distance events, junior Bob Liking is seeded third in the 10,000 meters in 28:00.77 while junior Jackson Sharp is third in the 5000 meters in 13:29.84.
Also competing for the Badger men are redshirt junior Jason Swarens, seeded 15th in the shot put with a UW record toss of 67 feet, 4 ¾ inches, while senior Lawrence Johnson is seeded 21st in the 100 meters in 10.16.
For the UW women, grad student Josie Schaefer competes in the shot put and discus. The Baraboo native is seeded 11th in the shot put with a school-record throw of 62-3 ¼ and 11th in the discus with a personal-best throw of 188-3.
Senior Destiny Huven challenges in the 100-meter hurdles, tied for 17th in 12.99.
