Badger captain becomes first Badger since 2011 to earn national honor
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women's hockey senior forward Britta Curl added another honor to her collection on Thursday as the captain was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America At-Large Second Team.
Curl becomes the first Badger since Becca Ruegsegger in 2011 to earn the national honor, which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom.
A native of Bismarck, North Dakota, Curl enjoyed a stellar season for UW with a career-best 42 points while leading UW to its seventh NCAA title and its third national title in the last five years. She was tied for the team lead with 19 goals this year while she posted a career-high 24 assists. A third-team All-WCHA honoree, Curl also was tied for the team lead with game-winning goals (4) and power-play goals (4).
Curl shined with Team USA at the 2023 IIHF Women's World Championship, helping the U.S. win gold and also captained the U.S. under-22 team during its series against Canada last summer.
She also has earned three WCHA Scholar Athlete honors, three WCHA All-Academic honors and holds a 3.913 grade-point average while studying kinesiology.
