Keller now a 3x Academic All-American
MADISON, Wis. – For the third time in her career, Badger softball first baseman and catcher, Katie Keller, has been named College Sports Communicators (CSC) Second-Team Academic All-American, the CSC announced Tuesday afternoon.
Keller, a graduate student at UW, joins just two other Badgers in program history to be named CSC Academic All-American, Carin Bouchard (1998) and Amanda Berg (2000). Keller earned Third Team and First Team honors as a junior and senior at Northern Illinois before transferring to UW.
The 2023 First-Team All-Big Ten and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First-Team All-Region honoree has upheld a perfect 4.0 GPA while earning her Masters in Sports Leadership at Wisconsin.
Keller led the team with a .379 overall batting average, (5th B1G), accumulated 53 hits, 15 doubles (1st B1G), a triple and six home runs while knocking in 24 RBI. She also ranked seventh in the Big Ten with an on-base percentage of .459 and OPS of 1.088. The Geneva, Illinois native also collected 87 career doubles, placing her in sole possession of second place on the NCAA All-Time Career Doubles list.
To qualify for Academic All-America honors, athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) at their current institution, and participate in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed.
