UW to host four home meets
MADISON, Wis. – Four home meets, including the prestigious Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour on Friday, Oct. 13, and the Big Ten Championships on Friday, Oct. 27, highlight the Wisconsin cross country schedule.
"Our 2023 cross country schedule sets up nicely for our student-athletes," UW Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mick Byrne said. "We have four stellar home meets – the Badger Classic, the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, the Big Ten Championships and the NCAA Great Lakes Regional – that give our student-athletes a chance to compete at a high level in front of our amazing fans.
"The Nuttycombe meet is the Nuttycombe – it's one of the biggest, if not the biggest regular-season invitational during the cross country season. Even though it's in mid-October, it's a great opportunity for us to evaluate ourselves against the top teams in the country. We're also excited to host the Big Ten meet. It's been 13 years since we've hosted, and we're looking forward to the opportunity to defend our men's title on our home turf. We're thrilled to host the NCAA Great Lakes Regional a year before we host the national championship meet in Madison."
The 2023 season begins for Wisconsin on Saturday, Sept. 9 as UW hosts the Badger Classic.
The Badgers will also make a trip to Chicago for the Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Friday, Sept. 29.
The 2023 Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour is slated for Friday, Oct. 13 at the Zimmer Championship Course. Every single top-10 team from last year's NCAA men's championship is set to race in Madison while seven of the top-10 finishing women's squads will toe the line.
Postseason racing starts on Friday, Oct. 27 with the 2023 Big Ten Cross Country Championship, hosted by the Badgers at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course. It marks the first time since 2010 that UW has hosted the conference meet.
UW will also be hosting the 2023 NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday, Nov. 10, marking the first time since 2019 that UW has hosted the regional meet, before the 2023 NCAA Championships take place on Saturday, Nov. 18, in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Last season the UW men's team captured its 53rd Big Ten Conference crown as Bob Liking won the individual title and Jackson Sharp finished runner-up. The men finished first at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional and sixth at the 2022 NCAA Championships while Sharp and Liking captured All-America honors.
The Wisconsin women earned a third-place finish at Big Tens the NCAA Great Lakes Regional last year before finishing 19th at the 2022 NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
