Badgers Close Season with 19th-Place Finish at NCAA Championships

Newhart leads Wisconsin to top-20 finish
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Wisconsin men's cross country team secured a 19th place finish at the NCAA Championships on Saturday at the Gans Creek Golf Course, closing out another season on the national stage.
The Badgers finished with 514 points to claim their 39th top-20 finish at NCAAs. Saturday marked Wisconsin's 63rd appearance at the NCAA Championships, the most of any program all-time.
Leading the way for Wisconsin was sophomore Liam Newhart, who placed 76th in 29 minutes, 28.5 seconds. It marked the first time Newhart has finished as UW's top runner at an NCAA championship.
Sophomore Matan Ivri crossed next for the Badgers, placing 111th in 29:43.2, followed closely by Christian de Vaal, who took 130th in 29:48.7 to round out Wisconsin's top three.
Archie Noakes followed the trio to tally a 145th-place finish in 29:55.0 while Johnny Livingstone completed UW's scoring five in 167th, crossing the line in 30:07.8.
On the team podium, Oklahoma State claimed the national title with 57 points, followed by New Mexico with 82 points and Iowa State with 158 points. Individually, Habtom Samuel of New Mexico won the national championship, covering the 10K course in 28:33.9
