Wisconsin men's soccer off to best start since 2011

Keenan and Andrews combine for a pair of goals to topple Bulldogs

MADISON, Wis. – A pair of second-half goals powered the Wisconsin men's soccer to a 2-0 victory over Drake on Sunday at McClimon, giving the Badgers their first 2-0 start to a season in 12 years.

How It Happened:
Seven minutes into the second half, Kevin Andrews beat his defenders, and created a shot that was saved by the Drake keeper, but Maxwell Keenan was able to grab the rebound and bury it to give the Badgers the lead.

Seven minutes after that, Andrews got his goal, getting his foot on a flick from Thomas Raimbault. The goal came on a Keenan cross.

From there, the Badger defenders and keeper Nate Crockford held Drake scoreless, allowing just two shots on goal, as well no corner kicks.

Comments from the Coach: "I'm really happy with two wins over a tough two opponents to navigate. I thought we were pretty stifling defensively, in that second half especially, and I'm really proud of the group for that, and the work that they put in this weekend." – Neil Jones

Key Notes:
  • Maxwell Keenan was involved in all three UW goals on the weekend, including two assists in Wisconsin's first two games. He has already surpassed last year's assist total of one.
  • Kevin Andrews made a impact in just his second career game for the Badgers, scoring one and assisting on the other Badger goal.
  • The Badgers move to 2-0-0 this season, shutting out their opponents in both games. The last time Wisconsin started off their season with two straights wins was 2011, with both of those games also shutouts.

Up Next: Next Friday, Sept. 1, Wisconsin will face a tough opponent in third-ranked Kentucky, the last of their three straight home games to start the season. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. CT at McClimon Soccer Complex, and can be streamed on the B1G+ App, as well as on the web at bigtenplus.com. Admission is free.
