Men's soccer stuns No. 2 Kentucky
September 01, 2023 | Men's Soccer
Badgers beat Wildcats for highest ranked win since 1995 NCAA title run
Full Game
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's soccer upset No. 2 Kentucky with a 1-0 victory on Friday in front of their home fans at McClimon Soccer Complex. Mitchell Dryden played hero early on in the game, as Wisconsin beat its highest ranked opponent since its 1995 championship season.
How It Happened:
It didn't take long for the Badgers to find the net, as Mitchell Dryden scored off a Maxwell Keenan pass in just the second minute of the game.
Scoring halted after that though, as the Badger defenders allowed just three shots on goal the entire game. Nate Crockford and the Badgers' defense have yet to concede a goal on the season, while the result ended Kentucky's 10-game string scoring at least one goal.
UW finished the game with a 7-3 shot advantage.
Comments from Head Coach Neil Jones
"Tonight was an ultimate team performance. Kentucky is a top squad. You can't take any plays off against a team like this. We did a good job keeping them at bay. Of course they're going to get a few chances here and there because of their quality, but overall a great result for the team and the program."
Key Notes:
UW returns to McClimon next on Friday, Sept. 8 against Mercer for the second annual 'March to McClimon' from DeJope Residence Hall.
