UW falls to Golden Eagles, 3-1, in I-94 rivalry game
MILWAUKEE – The No. 21 Wisconsin men's soccer took a loss against unbeaten Marquette in the annual I-94 Rivalry Game. Marquette came into tonight second in the nation in goals scored and added to that total with three goals against the Badgers. The Badgers were unable to make a comeback despite playing with an 11-to-10-man advantage in the second half.
How It Happened:
Marquette took the lead just over a minute into the game when Ryan Amond beat UW keeper Nate Crockford.
Wisconsin was quick to comeback though, when a Birgir Baldvinsson corner kick led to a shot attempt from midfielder Tim Bielic, who buried it from outside the box.
Marquette rebounded later in the second half, when the Golden Eagles' Edrey Caceres bombed a pass down the field that Brooklyn Merl capitalized on, bringing Marquette back ahead.
The Golden Eagles started the second half much like the first, scoring with just 24 seconds elapsed, going up 3-1.
A Badgers' comeback looked possible when Marquette obtained a red card in the 52 minute, giving them only 10 players to play with for the rest of the game. Wisconsin came up with three shots and two corner kicks in the next five minutes but were unable to score. An offsides call on a potential Thomas Raimbault goal occurred two minutes later.
Wisconsin finished the second half with a shot advantage of 8-3, after getting outshot 7-1 in the first half, but the score remained the same throughout most of the second half. The Badgers fell to Marquette 3-1 in UW's first loss to the Golden Eagles in Milwaukee since 2014.

Key Notes:
- Senior Tim Bielic score the lone goal for the Badgers tonight. It was the midfielder's first goal of the season, and his first since 2021. Bielic made the preseason Big Ten Players to Watch list.
- The Badgers had 10 shots tonight, extending their streak of double-digit shots in all six games of the season. They have already surpassed last season's longest streak of five.
- Wisconsin's 11 corner kicks in this game serve as a season high. Coming into the game, the Badger's had 45 corner kicks, the most of any Big Ten team.
