MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's soccer team looks to get out to a fast start to the Big Ten season with its game against No. 23 Indiana on Friday in the first conference match of the season. The game will be played in Bloomington, Indiana for UW's second straight road game.
Here's some things to look out for before the game.
1 – A Sort of Homecoming – While Nate and Charlie Crockford have never played Indiana before, they still have some history with the school. Both their father and uncle played for the Indiana men's soccer team. Their uncle, Jim, won the national championship in 1988, while their father, Brian, made the semifinals in 1991.
2 – Chief Keefe – Junior Ryan Keefe made his mark against Indiana last year, scoring the lone Badger goal in a 2-1 loss. The goal broke a three-game scoring drought Wisconsin had against Indiana. Keefe has seen his impact increase the last few games this season, getting his first start against Mercer, and recording a shot on goal in his last two games.
3 – Big Time Tim – Tim Bielic, one of the Big Ten's Players to Watch, scored his first goal of the season against Marquette. Bielic has primarily been a facilitator for the Badgers, with a team-best six assists last season. His goal from outside the box on Monday was his first since Nov. 7, 2021.
Â
4 – Who's Your Hoosiers? – Despite their .500 start to the season (2-2-1), Indiana has historically been one of the Big Ten's top teams, making the NCAA championship game last season. They were the second-ranked team in this season's preseason poll and are currently ranked No. 23. UW's last victory over Indiana came in 2013, though Wisconsin did win on penalty kicks in a 0-0 tie in the 2017 Big Ten Tournament championship game.Â
5 – Conference Play – Big Ten action opens up for both teams this Friday. Wisconsin's 3-2-1 record ranks third among conference teams, while Indiana sits fifth. Both teams take the most shots among conference teams as well, with Indiana at 86 and Wisconsin just behind them at 85. They also rank second and third respectively in shots on goal per game.
Extra Time – The game will be live streamed on the B1G+ app, and on the web at bigtenplus.com. Look for live updates on the @BadgerMSoccer X (formerly twitter) page, and @badgermsoccer on Instagram.
Kickoff on Friday is set for 6:30 p.m. CT, at Bill Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana.
Up Next: Wisconsin plays host to Northwestern (5-0-1) for its Big Ten home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. CT. That game airs live on BTN.
