Badgers tie Nebraska 1-1 to start conference play
LINCOLN, Neb. – The Wisconsin women's soccer team (5-1-3) pulled off a huge draw against Nebraska (6-1-2) in its first game of the Big Ten season. The match finished 1-1 after a late equalizer by the Badgers.
How it happened
The team traveled to the land of the Cornhuskers for its opening match of the Big Ten season. Unfortunately, Eleanor Dale - the nation's leading goal-scorer - scored first for Nebraska. The Badgers held the Cornhuskers to a 1-0 lead heading into the half.
It was apparent from the whistle that Wisconsin was changing tactics for the second 45 minutes, electing for a formation change. The Badgers put the Cornhuskers more on its back foot and came knocking on the door.
If Wisconsin has shown one thing this season, it's that even when its back is against the ball, there is no quit; the Badgers consistently play hard until the final whistle. The team dug deep found its reward in the 88th minute.
Maia Richters played a ball into the box from the right flank; it then fell to Aryssa Mahrt. Mahrt stepped up and hit it into the bottom right corner, leaving Nebraska in disbelief. With the goal, the senior has pushed her total stats to three goals and three assists.
