UW trailed 2-0 in last 15 minutes
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's soccer completed a dramatic comeback with two goals in the last 15 minutes against 13th-ranked Northwestern to earn a 2-2 tie on Tuesday at McClimon Soccer Complex.
How It Happened:
Scoring didn't begin until the second half of play when Northwestern's Ucho Achara Jr. collected the ball after it deflected off a Badger defender and found the back of the net in minute 59.
Another bounce for Northwestern came in minute 71, when Northwestern's Ibrahim Obeid scored in a crowded box after a failed clearing attempt.
Things started to turn around just a few minutes later when the Badgers got a free kick off a Wildcat foul. A Maxwell Keenan cross deflected off a Northwestern defender, before Wisconsin's Birgir Baldvinsson headed it in to cut the Badger deficit to one.
After heavy back in forth in the next 10 minutes, it was senior Tim Bielic's turn to play hero. After scoring his first goal in over a year against Marquette from outside the box on a corner bounce, the midfielder converted on another shot from a corner kick rebound, tying things up in the 87th minute of play.
Neither team was able to score in the waning minutes, ending the game 2-2, and giving the Badgers their second straight tie against a ranked opponent.
Straight from the Pitch - Head Coach Neil Jones:
"Very happy in the belief and fight in the group and get something out of the game. Every single point is going to matter in the Big Ten standings and every single result is going to matter at the end of the season. Everyone from 1 to 26 was invested in this moment and this result."
