
Badgers celebrate home opener with banner reveal and ceremonial puck drop

MADISON, Wis. – It will be a great weekend for hockey in Madison next weekend for the reigning NCAA champion Wisconsin women's hockey team!Â
UW opens its home campaign against Boston College with a puck drop from two-time Olympian Karyn Bye on Thursday, Oct. 5 and the raising of the 2023 NCAA Championship Banner on Friday, Oct. 6.Â
A native of River Falls, Wisconsin, Karyn Bye is known for her trailblazing career and impact on women's hockey in the United States. Bye skated with the U.S. Women's National Team from 1992-2002, including the 1998 Olympic Winter Games where she helped lead the U.S. to first gold medal ever awarded in women's ice hockey at the Olympic Winter Games. She was inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame in 2011 and also earned a spot in the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 2014.Â
The Badgers will raise the 2023 NCAA Championship Banner prior to puck drop on Friday's game. Wisconsin captured the seventh title in program history in a thrilling 1-0 win over WCHA rival and top-ranked Ohio State. UW's seven NCAA championships are the most of any school in the country. Fans are recommended to be in their seats by 6:45 for the banner ceremony.Â
Puck drop for the home opener against Boston College is set for 7 p.m. CT on both Thursday and Friday. Tickets are still available for Thursday's game while Friday's game is sold out.Â
