ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Wisconsin women's rowing team continued its fall season at the Head of the Rock regatta on Sunday.
Rowers raced down a 5,000-meter (3.1 mile) course on the Rock River, competing against teams from around the Midwest such as the University of Chicago, Marquette, and Big Ten conference opponents Purdue and Illinois.
The openweights started the regatta strong, sweeping the medal stand in the women's collegiate pairs race. Juniors Josie Reeve and Tristen Gallo came in first place with a time of 19:47.818, followed by junior Grace Fragakis and senior Mara Cassidy in second place and senior Macy Mosner and graduate student Morgan Jensema in third.
In its second race of the regatta, UW's novice eights crew placed third in the women's collegiate novice eights event with a time of 19:43.635.
The Badgers claimed first and second place in their third race of the day, the women's collegiate fours event. Wisconsin's A team came in first with a time of 17:40.802, while UW's C team placed second after finishing the course in 18:27.924.
Wisconsin finished out the afternoon with the collegiate eights event, where the openweight crew, led by coxswain Chloe Powell, came in second place with a time of 16:53.925.
Up next: The Badgers head to Boston to race at the Head of the Charles regatta on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19-20.
