Badgers battle in 3-2 loss to No. 5 Ohio State

Zachemski, Quintos score penalty kicks in close game

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's soccer team (6-5-2, 1-5-2 Big Ten) lost a back-and-forth battle, 3-2, to No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes (10-1-2, 5-1-1 Big Ten) on Saturday at McClimon Soccer Complex.

How it happened
Wisconsin opened the scoring in the 28th minute. In a dangerous spot in the box, Trip Fleming headed the ball toward the net and officials ruled that OSU's Donovan Williams played the ball with his hand and the Badgers received a penalty kick. Matthew Zachemski took the spot kick and drilled it into the back of the net to give Wisconsin a 1-0 lead.
The Buckeyes equalized in the 38th minute. The Badgers continued to create dangerous opportunities in the first half. Dean Boltz came mere inches from scoring, nailing the post in the 41st minute.
The game went into the half with both sides even at 1-1. The Buckeyes scored in the 61st minute to take a 2-1 lead. The Badgers equalized in the 64th. Wisconsin sent a ball into the box, and a Badger was dragged to the ground, leading to the game's second penalty kick. Ryan Quintos took it from the spot and scored to even the game 2-2.
The Buckeyes took the lead back in the 80th minute.
Dean Boltz had an opportunity to level in the 85th minute on a dangerous header that the Buckeye goalkeeper tipped just clear. The game ended 3-2 in favor of Ohio State.
