
Setting the Stage: Badgers play a pair at home

MADISON, Wis. — The No. 9 Wisconsin volleyball team will host two at home this weekend, playing Maryland on Friday night at 7 p.m. and Northwestern on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Both matches will be aired on B1G+.
Before the match begins, here are six things to know:Â
1. LAST TIME OUT: Since the loss to No. 16 Minnesota to open up the Big Ten season, the Badgers have not dropped a set. Wisconsin moved to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in the Big Ten after sweeping Washington 25-8, 25-14, 25-21 at the UW Field House on Sunday afternoon. Wisconsin hit .636 with no errors in the first set and held the Huskies to -.103. For the match, Wisconsin committed just four hitting errors in the match to hit .486 cmpared to Washington's .114. The Badger block lit up the floor on Sunday afternoon, outblocking Washington 11-1.Â

3. B1G TIME FRESHIE:Â Freshman setter, Charlie Fuerbringer earned her first collegiate honors, Big Ten Freshman of the Week, announced Oct. 7. Fuerbringer totaled 68 assists over the span of six sets, for an average of 11.33 assists/set. She also chipped in with 0.83 kills/set, 1.50 points/set and 0.67 blocks/set including four block assists against the Huskies.
4. SERVING UP ACES:Â The Badgers have made it count from the service line in the past three matches, serving up 22 service aces, compared to its opponent's six. Gulce Guctekin has led the charge with seven aces in that span.
5. SCOUTING THE TERRAPINS:Â This marks the fourteenth meeting between Maryland and Wisconsin, as UW leads 12-1. The Badgers fell in five sets at Maryland in the 2021 season. The Terps sit at 10-5 overall and 1-3 in Big Ten play. They started off conference play with three-straight losses, but snapped the skid on Saturday night with a sweep of Rutgers. Outside Samantha Schnitta leads the team with 3.44 kills per set.
6. SCOUTING THE WILDCATS:Â Wisconsin and Northwestern faced off just 15 days ago, where the Badgers swept NU 25-16, 25-16, 25-15 in Evanston, Ill. The Wildcats had three players with six kills in the match in late September. The Badgers hit .413 (40 - 9 - 75) while holding the Wildcats to just .067 (24 - 19 - 75). Wisconsin leads the Wildcats 60-29 all-time. The last time Wisconsin dropped a match to Northwestern was before the Sheffield era, in 2012. Northwestern holds a 3-9 overall record, and a 1-3 record in the Big Ten.
