UW opens November with setback against Hawkeyes

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Wisconsin football team dropped a 42-10 contest at Iowa on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium.

After an opening defensive stop, the UW (5-4, 3-3 Big Ten) offense marched down the field to set up a 38-yard field goal from Nathanial Vakos for the game's first score. The drive went 12 plays for 59 yards, chewing up over 6-minutes of clock.

The Hawkeyes (6-3, 4-2 Big Ten) responded two possessions later, punching in a 1-yard rush for a touchdown. They padded the lead on their ensuing possession, putting together a methodical drive capped off by a 16-yard rushing touchdown. The 14-3 score held until halftime as the sides traded punts into the break.

Iowa scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to extend their lead to 28-3.

Wisconsin added a score of its own as the fourth quarter began. Braedyn Locke hit receiver CJ Williams in the corner of the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown catch. It is Williams' second career score after a touchdown against South Dakota on Sept. 7.

The Hawkeyes answered the Badgers' touchdown in the fourth quarter with two scores to close the action.

Christian Alliegro set a career high with 16 tackles to lead the UW defense while Jake Chaney had 10 stops. Alliegro's tackles are the most for a Badger in a game since linebacker Leo Chenal did so in a 20-14 win over Army on Oct. 16, 2021.

Running back Tawee Walker had 52 yards on the ground, while true freshman back Darrion Dupree ran for a career-high 52 yards on 7 carries, averaging 7.4 yards a run.

Up Next: The Badgers are idle next Saturday. They matchup with No. 1 Oregon on Nov. 16 at Camp Randall Stadium. The Ducks improved to 9-0 (6-0 Big Ten) Saturday after taking down Michigan 38-17 on the road. Oregon takes on Maryland next Saturday at home.
