PRINCETON, N.J.  - The men's crew traveled this weekend for the Princeton Chase across Lake Carnegie.

The Badgers raced three boats in this regatta for the Men's Heavyweight 8+ race.

In the first round, the Wisconsin Men's A boat placed eighth, the B boat placed 16th and the C boat placed 38th out of 41 entries. However, all three boats qualified for the second round of the race and found great success. The Wisconsin A boat placed second out of 23 entries, just seconds behind the winner, Princeton A. The Wisconsin B and C boats also did well, placing fourth and 18th.

Up next: The Badgers race to Ohio for a race against Marietta College in the spring.

"In New Jersey they did better relatively than last year. The margin off of the lead boat was narrower by about five seconds and the margin between the first and second boat was about half as much as last year at 17 seconds. Our erg scores reflect that as well. 

"We brought a freshman boat for the first time since 2015. They were the only boat to go faster in the slower conditions of the second piece. If they would have gone out for a third piece it would've been even faster than the previous two pieces. 

"They're learning fast, just need to catch up to the competition. We have about three weeks left on the water and the goal is to break 600 miles for the fall. We're at about 465 right now."
