Full Game Notes

MADISON, Wis.
– The Wisconsin men's hockey team plays its final Big Ten series of the semester when it visits No. 8 Michigan in Ann Arbor on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13-14.

Friday's game starts at 5 p.m. CT and is televised on the Big Ten Network, while Saturday's contest begins at 6 p.m. and streams on B1G+.

Here are six quick things to know before tuning in:

Rosters: Badgers || Wolverines

1 - SENSATIONAL SCARFONE:
Goaltender Tommy Scarfone had a weekend to remember against Michigan State, recording a 26-save shutout in the Badgers' 4-0 win on Friday. That marked the senior's 10th-career shutout in his 100th collegiate game, and his first shutout as a Badger.

He finished the series against Michigan State with a .952 save percentage and 1.46 goals-against average through two games and was named Big Ten First Star of the Week for his efforts.

2 - FINLEY'S ON TOP: Sophomore forward Quinn Finley tallied his career-high 11th goal of the year on Friday. He is currently tied for the NCAA lead in goals and has sole possession of the No. 1 spot in the Big Ten. Finley's 20 points, four more than the 16 he scored over 36 games as a freshman, tie him for third in the conference and eighth in the country.

The sophomore had his team-leading, career-high seven-game (8g,7a) point streak, which started on Nov. 8 vs. Minnesota and lasted until Dec. 6 vs. Michigan State, snapped last Saturday. That marked his second streak of at least five games this year after having points in five consecutive contests from Oct. 12-26.

3 - LOOKING AHEAD: The games at Michigan mark UW's last two before the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 28-29 at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. The Badgers open with Ferris State at 5 p.m. on Dec. 28, before taking on either UConn or Alaska on Dec. 29 at 5 p.m.

UW returns to Big Ten play on Jan. 2 at Michigan State, before skating in the Frozen Confines against the Spartans on Jan. 4 at Wrigley Field in Chicago at 8 p.m.

4 - LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin travels to Ann Arbor for its final Big Ten series of 2024. The Badgers most recently recorded a win and overtime loss against then-No. 1 Michigan State on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7. Through 16 games, UW has a 6-9-1 record (4-6-0 Big Ten) and sits in second place in the conference with 15 points.

UW shut out the Spartans, 4-0, in game one to snap MSU's nine-game winning streak. Wisconsin got on the board 14:20 into the first period on Tyson Dyck's second goal of the season. The game was silent from there until Quinn Finley lit the lamp on the power play 5:09 into the third period to give the Badgers a 2-0 lead. Six minutes later, at the 11:16 mark, Owen Mehlenbacher made it 3-0 on his first goal of the year. Finley scored into an empty net with 2:20 remaining to seal the 4-0 win for the Badgers. Tommy Scarfone stood tall in net all night, turning away all 26 Michigan State shots on goal to earn his first shutout as a Badger.

In game two, the Badgers fell, 3-2, in overtime. Wisconsin got on the board with 3:42 left in the first period when Owen Lindmark scored on the power play. UW made it a 2-0 game, 3:16 into the second period after Christian Fitzgerald found the back of the net. Michigan State scored once at 6:57 of the second period and again 2:24 into the third period to send the game to overtime tied at two. Exactly three minutes into the extra time, the Spartans tallied the game-winning goal to claim the extra conference point.

5 - SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES: No. 8 Michigan (10-5-1, 4-2-0 Big Ten - 11 points) enters the series after being swept at Minnesota, losing Friday's game, 6-0, and Saturday's game, 2-0.

Freshman forward Michael Hage leads the roster with nine goals and 17 points in 13 games played. The Wolverines have split their goaltending duties between graduate student Logan Stein and freshman Cameron Korpi. Stein has six wins in 10 starts, accumulating a 2.96 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage, while Korpi has four wins in nine starts with a 2.69 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage.
