MANKATO, Minn. ā Wisconsin women's hockey freshman
Maggie Scannell scored twice to lead the No. 1 Badgers o a 5-0 shutout win at Minnesota State on Saturday afternoon.Ā
For Scannell, it marked her second multi-goal game for the Badgers (19-1-0, 13-1-0 WCHA).
Laila Edwards,
Caroline Harvey and
Casey O'Brien also found the back of the Maverick's (6-8-1, 2-8-1) net in UW's final game of 2024.Ā
Scannell opened the scoring just under seven minutes into the contest with her seventh of the season.
Katie Kotlowski sent a long pass up the ice to Scannell who beat a defender and tucked the puck past Maverick's goaltender Suzette Faucher.Ā
Edwards doubled the Badgers lead late in the second period. O'Brien created a turnover on defense and broke out of the zone. She launched a pass across the slot to Edwards to one-time into the back of the net. Wisconsin allowed a season-low one shot on goal in the first period.Ā
Harvey extended the Badgers lead to three on the power play eight minutes into the second. Simms found Harvey in front who handled it in the slot and waited for a lane to open to slam the puck into the net. The Badgers took their 3-0 lead into the second intermission.
Just 25 seconds into the third frame, the Badgers found themselves on an odd-player rush and O'Brien capitalized for Wisconsin's fourth of the night. Three minutes into the third, Scannell tallied her second of the night on the power play and eighth of the season to extend the Badger's lead to five.
Ava McNaughton made 10 saves to earn her 18th win of the season. Her 18 wins lead the NCAA.

Head coach Mark Johnson
On the victory:
"Today's game from start to finish was one of our most complete games. We did a lot of little things well and played consistent for sixty minutes. I was excited about that. Give the players a lot of credits for winning two games against a really difficult opponent. It was a good way to finish the first half."
On Maggie Scannell and the team as a whole:
"She missed four game up until yesterday and didn't get a lot of ice time yesterday's game. She scored a big first goal for us. All four lines played for us today. Give them a lot of credit for executing our game plan."
