Six Wisconsin rowers invited to Olympic Selection Camp

Four women, two men will head to Florida on March 3

MADISON, Wis. – While two Wisconsin women's rowing alumni automatically qualified for the 2024 Olympic Selection Camp last weekend during USRowing's Winter Speed Order, four more Badgers will join them when the camp starts on March 3 in Sarasota, Florida.

USRowing announced the 67 athletes invited to the camp on Thursday. The selection camp will run March 3-24 at Nathan Benderson Park.

Badgers joining automatic qualifiers Maddie Wanamaker (2020 U.S. Olympian, five-time U.S. Senior National Team) and Sophia Vitas (four-time U.S. Senior National Team member) include Lauren O'Connor (U.S. Senior National Team member), Grace Joyce (two-time U.S. Senior National Team member), Michael Knippen (three-time U.S. Senior National Team member) and coxswain Jimmy Catalano (two-time U.S. Senior National Team member).

The camp will select the women's double sculls, lightweight women's double sculls, women's four, men's four and women's eight that will compete at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games July 27-August 4.

The camp also will select the men's eight that will compete at the 2024 World Rowing Final Olympic Qualification Regatta for a chance to represent the U.S. at the Olympic Games, as well as men's and women's quadruple sculls crews that will race at the 2024. U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Team Trials – Rowing April 2-7 in Sarasota. The winning quads at Olympic Trials will then go on to the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta to try to earn a spot in Paris.

The women's single sculls, women's pair and men's pair for the Olympics will also be chosen at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
