OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — The Wisconsin women's rowing team faced its first test of the season during day one of the Cardinal Invitational on Saturday on Melton Hill Lake.
UW was led by the varsity eight, which finished in second and first place in its respective morning and afternoon races.
Multiple other boats finished in second place in their respective races, with the second varsity four also taking second in the morning race and the third varsity four and novice eight finishing in second in the afternoon.
The Badgers competed against boats from host Louisville, Clemson, UNC, Indiana, Navy, USD and Alabama. They will compete against Navy, Duke, Notre Dame and Indiana tomorrow. Duke (14th place), Indiana (17th place) and Navy (21st place) competed at the 2023 NCAA Championships.

"Today was a solid day of racing with opportunities to try different combinations across our boats. For only having been on the water for five practices before coming down to Tennessee, we are pleased to see how the athletes used each race to apply and improve what we have been working on this winter.
Our varsity eight had the most consistent racing, with stern pair of Georgia Morrow and Kira Funk laying down an aggressive rhythm that the rest of the boat was able to carry and accelerate down the race course.We are excited to see what one more day of racing will bring and how it will carry over into our spring break training in one week."
