F(oar) things to know: Badgers head to B1G Invite
April 18, 2024 | Women's Rowing
Wisconsin to face top teams from around the country on Friday and Saturday
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's openweight rowing team continues its spring racing season this Friday and Saturday, April 19-20, at the B1G Invitational at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida.
Before they hit the water, here are f(oar) things to know:
1 - B1G COMPETITION: This weekend's competition includes a mix of new and familiar Big Ten opponents from the Midwest, Southeast, California, and more. Notable participants include No. 9 Michigan, No. 12 Ohio State, No. 13 Rutgers, No. 14 Duke, No. 15 Tennessee, No. 16 Indiana, Notre Dame, Alabama, UCLA, Minnesota, UCF and host school Iowa, among others.

2 - LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers opened their spring racing season by participating in the Cardinal Invite on Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
The varsity eight crew led UW on day one, finishing in second and first place in its respective morning and afternoon races. On day two, the second varsity four shined, placing second in its final race and improving on its day one afternoon race time by 21 seconds.
3- PARIS BOUND: Two Wisconsin women's rowing alumni, Maddie Wanamaker and Sophia Vitas, are among the first 21 members named to the 2024 U.S. Olympic rowing team.
Wanamaker will be competing in her second straight Olympic games in the women's four or women's eight crew, while Vitas will make her Olympics debut in the women's double sculls. They continue the longstanding tradition of UW rowing having a presence at the games as a Wisconsin men's or women's rower has competed in every Olympics since 1968.
Two more women are in the running for the Olympics after winning the Olympic Trials in the quadruple sculls, including Lauren O'Connor and Grace Joyce. The two Badgers, along with the rest of their crew, next compete at the Final Olympic and Paralympic Qualifying Regatta that runs May 19-21 in Switzerland to attempt to qualify their boat for the Olympics this summer in Paris.
