MADISON, Wis. – Thanks to a strong showing during the winter season, Wisconsin Athletics has vaulted up to No. 9 in the latest Division I LEARFIELD Directors' Cup Standings released by National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and LEARFIELD.
Wisconsin has 662.50 total points and recorded 385.00 points during the winter sports season. The Badgers are seeking their first top-20 finish since the 2018-19 season when they placed 16th. A year ago, UW finished 27th in the overall standings.
The Badgers were paced by their women's hockey program that made it to the NCAA championship game for the 11th time in program history and for the fourth time in the last five tournaments.
Men's track and field finished 14th at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships thanks to a runner-up showing in the mile by Adam Spencer. Women's swimming and diving placed 15th at its national meet as the Badgers were led by 200 back national champion Phoebe Bacon.
In addition, wrestling placed 18th at NCAA's, men's hockey returned the NCAA tournament and men's basketball made the Big Dance for the 23rd time in the last 25 years. Women's track and field saw Olivia Roberts earn first-team All-America honors to score points for UW.
Stanford leads the competition with 977.00 points, while Texas is in second with 746.50. Rounding out the top five schools are North Carolina with 733.50 points, Michigan in fourth with 708.0 points and Penn State at fifth with 702.75 points.
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 19 sports in Division I (four of which must include men's and women's basketball, baseball and volleyball).
