Senior alternate captain begins professional career in home country
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's hockey senior center David Silye will begin his professional hockey career with the AHL's Calgary Wranglers, joining the team on an amateur tryout contract, the franchise announced on Thursday.
The Arnprior, Ontario, native, finished second on the Badgers with 32 points, sharing the team lead with 23 assists and adding in nine goals. A team alternate captain, the forward recorded eight multi-point games, which is good for second-most on the roster.
Silye proved an all-around force for UW as an honorable mention all-Big Ten Conference pick, especially in the faceoff circle, where he currently ranks fourth in the nation with 497 faceoff wins. His 59.3 percent success rate (497-341) in the faceoff circle ranks seventh in the nation among players with at least 200 wins.
He was also a key cog in UW's third-ranked penalty kill (87.2 percent).
The 2023 CCHA Forward of the Year scored 23 goals and 39 points his junior year at Minnesota State to lead the Mavericks to regular-season and tournament titles and an NCAA tournament bid. He also played his sophomore season at MSU, helping the Mavericks to the 2022 NCAA Frozen Four championship game.
He played his freshman season for Clarkson in 2020-21
He finishes his collegiate career with 40 goals and 91 points in 136 games played.
