MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's track and field senior Adam Spencer, along with former UW standouts Morgan McDonald and Olli Hoare all earned spots on Team Australia for the 2024 Olympic Games, the nation's Olympic federation announced Monday.

Spencer, the 2024 NCAA bronze medalist in the 1500 meters, will make his first Olympic appearance after a strong year in all competitions. The Melbourne native won the 1500 meters at the Australian Athletics Championships, crossing the line in 3 minutes, 37.68 seconds. The 2024 Big Ten Champion in the outdoor 800 meters, Spencer finished third in the 1500 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. On the indoor circuit, Spencer was the 2024 NCAA runner-up in the mile at 4:01.92 and the Big Ten champion in the event. He broke the school record in the mile back in February at the coveted Millrose Games with a time of 3:52.70 and set the school standard in the 1500 meters last summer thanks to a time of 3:31.81 at the London Diamond League event.

Four-time NCAA Champion McDonald makes his second Olympic Games after finishing second in the 5000 meters at the Australian Athletics Championship back in April. He followed up his performance at the Diamond Gala in China, finishing seventh at 13:18.65. He trimmed that time by 18 seconds at the LA Gran Prix in May, placing 12th at 13:00.48 to ultimately book his ticket to Paris. McDonald made his Olympic debut at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the 5000 meters and will be joined in the event by former Badger Mohammed Ahmed, who will compete in his fourth Olympics.

Hoare also gets set for his second Olympics after finishing 11th in the 1500 meters at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Hoare went on to have an extremely strong 2022 season where he won the Australian Championships and CommonWealth Games in the 1500 meters. This year, Hoare earned his spot in the Australian team after finishing second at the Athletics Championships, second to only Spencer. He set a season best over a month later in the Oslo Bislett Diamond Discipline Games at 3:31.08. The 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Champion in the 1500 meters, Hoare owns the Australian National Record in the 1500 meters of 3:29.41 set last summer.

The trio are the 15th Badgers and sixth internationals to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games, joining: Zach Ziemek (men's track), Mohammed Ahmed (men's track - Team Canada), Phoebe Bacon (women's swimming) Lauren Carlini (volleyball), Grace Joyce (women's rowing), Alev Kelter (women's rugby), Rose Lavelle (women's soccer), Lauren O'Connor (women's rowing), Dana Rettke (women's volleyball), Taiko Torepe-Ormsby (men's swimming - New Zealand), Maddie Wanamaker (women's rowing) and Sophia Vitas (women's rowing).
