MADISON, Wis. –
Trip Fleming scored directly off a corner kick in the fifth minute to set the Badgers on their way to a third victory to start the season for the Wisconsin men's soccer team.
How it happened
A pair of goals by Fleming in the fifth and 14th minutes was answered by a UIC 22nd-minute tally. Then freshman and reigning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week
Dean Boltz scored his fifth and sixth goals in his first three career games to give UW a comfortable 4-1 lead by halftime.
Fleming completed his hat trick in the 59th minute, the second hat trick of the season for the Badgers, to close out the scoring.
Notes to Know
Wisconsin scored four goals for the third consecutive game, marking the fourth time in school history accomplishing that feat. The Badgers did the same in 1994, 1991 and 1983.
After scoring his first career goal last game against Drexel, Fleming added his first career hat trick. The hat trick was the second of the season for the Badgers. Prior to this year, UW's last hat trick came in 2013.
Fleming's seven-point performance (3 goals, 1 assist) gives UW its second seven-point game in three contests this season (Boltz, Aug. 22 vs. Marist). Both players are one point off the UW single-game mark and both are one of eight Badgers all-time to post at least seven points in a game.
Boltz' 14 points through three games match the second-highest total in a season since 2017 for UW.
