MADISON, Wis. – The duo of
Caroline Harvey and
Casey O'Brien will serve as co-captains for the 2024-25 season, Wisconsin women's hockey head coach
Mark Johnson announced on Wednesday.
Harvey and O'Brien will be assisted by
Lacey Eden and
Laila Edwards, who were named alternate captains for the 2024-25 squad.
This marks the fourth time in program history UW has had co-captains and the first since the 2020-21 season when Grace Bowlby and Brette Pettet captained UW to its sixth NCAA title.
The 2024 USCHO National Player of the Year, O'Brien received first-team All-America honors last year after leading UW to the NCAA title game. A two-time national champion, O'Brien posted a career-best 73 points on 23 goals and NCAA-leading 50 assists in the 2023-24 season, becoming the first Badger in school history to record 50 assists in a season. O'Brien earned both Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Top-3 (2023-24) and Top-10 Finalist (2021-2022) honors.
A 2024 First-Team All-American, Harvey is the first junior to don the "C" since Carla MacLeod did so during the 2003-04 season. The Salem, New Hampshire, native already sits in 13th place in school history in defender scoring with 74 career points through two seasons with the Cardinal and White. Harvey was named the WCHA Defender of the Year last year and was a top-10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award.
A native of Annapolis, Maryland, Eden is coming off a career-best 56-point season on 27 goals and 29 assists. Eden joined the Badgers midway through the 2020-21 season, sparking UW to the NCAA title. Eden would redshirt the 2021-22 season, earning silver with Team USA at the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship. The winger played 40 games in the 2022-23 campaign, scoring 40 points and earning her second national championship with the Badgers.
The 2024 Bob Allen USA Hockey Player of the Year, Edwards is also coming off a career-best season, posting 56 points on 21 goals and 35 assists in the Cardinal and White her sophomore season. The MVP of the 2024 IIHF Women's World Championship, Edwards was a WCHA Rookie of the Year Finalist in her freshman year on the 2023 National Championship team and was also named to the all-tournament team during UW's run to its seventh NCAA title.
The Badgers open the season on Friday, Sept. 27 at LaBahn Arena with a two-game series against Lindenwood. Single-game tickets are now available on UWBadgers.Com.
