No. 10 Wisconsin wins at No. 16 Kentucky for fifth straight victory

Badgers at 5-0-0 with their first ranked and road win

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Noah Glorioso scored late to hand the No. 10 Wisconsin men's soccer (5-0-0) a 1-0 victory over the No. 16 Kentucky Wildcats (1-1-1) on Friday in UW's first road contest of the season.

How it happened
Defenses took charge early in the game. Both teams defended fiercely, and despite some threatening opportunities for the Badgers, both teams went into the half with no shots on goal.

Dean Boltz almost gave the Badgers the lead in the 75th minute on a header from a set piece but was ruled offside by officials.

Glorioso finally broke through the Wildcats' defense in the 78th minute. Trip Fleming's dangerous cross into the box bounced off a couple of defenders and the Kentucky goaltender, allowing Glorioso to drill it into the back of the net.

With 12 minutes left to play, the Badgers returned to completing the shutout with some stellar defense and goaltending. Goaltender Matisse Hébert stopped a couple of dangerous opportunities from Kentucky in the final minutes to close out the Wisconsin victory.

Notes to know
  • Wisconsin's 5-0-0 start is its best start since 2001.
  • Hébert earned his third shutout of the season, enough to lead the Big Ten and earn him a six-way tie for second in the NCAA.
  • Glorioso scored his first goal as a Badger after earning starting spots on the lineup in the last two games of the 2023 season.
  • The victory in Lexington was the Badgers' first road win and first win against a ranked opponent this season.
  • Wisconsin has won two straight games against Kentucky, defeating them with the same score of 1-0 in Madison last year.
