NEW YORK – The Wisconsin men's track and field team kicked off an exciting weekend of competition on Friday, Jan. 24, at the Dr. Sander Invitational in New York City and the Fighting Illini Invitational in Champaign, Illinois. 

Over in New York at the historic Armory, the Badgers shined.

The distance medley relay team of Andrew Casey, Jalen Williams, Patrick Hilby and Bryce Stachewicz delivered a thrilling victory, clocking a time of 9 minutes, 52.88 seconds to secure the top spot in D1 track this season. In the weight throw invitational, Joseph White made history with a remarkable throw of 71-9 1/2 (21.88m), moving him from fifth to fourth all-time in Wisconsin's records. Back on the track, Micah Wilson impressed in the 3000 meters invitational, earning third place with a time of 8:05.39, while Elliott Harris secured another third-place finish in the 400 meters invitational, crossing the line in 48.11.

The sprinters also made their presence felt in New York. Jalen Williams took third in the 60-meter open with a time of 7.03, while Gio Wearing placed fifth overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.97. 

In Champaign, Illinois, the Badgers competed at the Fighting Illini Invitational. Landon Gallun had a solid showing in the 60 meters, qualifying for finals with a time of 7.03. Quinn Lansill made his season debut in the heptathlon, completing four of the seven events on day one. He excelled in the shot put, where his throw of 42-2 (12.85m) earned him a fifth-place finish in the event. 

The Badgers look to build on their strong performances as both meets continue to Saturday. Action begins at 11a.m.  in Illinois and running events begin at noon in New York.
