NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Wisconsin men's track and field team kicked off its weekend of competition on Friday at the Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky and the Meyo Invite in Notre Dame, Indiana.
Down south at the Lenny Lyles Invitational, sprinters Gio Wearing and
Landon Gallun set the tone for the Badgers. A native of Ashburn, Virginia, Wearing finished fourth, crossing the line in 6.91 seconds as freshman Gallun finished eighth with a time of 6.94. The duo advanced to the 60-meter semifinals taking place tomorrow at 9:45 a.m. Gallun also ran a personal best in the unseeded 200 meters, clocking 22.16 for a 17th-place finish. In the seeded 200 meters, Wearing ended the day finishing 16th in 21.87.
Meanwhile, at the Meyo Invite at Notre Dame,
Jalen Williams was the standout with a first-place finish in the 200 meters. Williams finished with a time of 21.46 seconds, earning a personal best en route to a victory to start his weekend of competition.
Redshirt freshman JJ Williams placed sixth in the 600 Meter Open, crossing the line in 1:20.30.
The Badgers return to action on Saturday. Competition begins at 9 a.m. at both the Lenny Lyles Invitational and the Meyo Invite.
