Badger men's crew heads to Boston
BOSTON, Mass – The Wisconsin men's rowing team opens its season at the Head of the Charles regatta on Oct. 19.
1. WHAT TO KNOW – Wisconsin will travel to the East Coast to kick off its fall season. The crew will race in the men's championship four at 1:05 p.m. and championship eight at 3:20 p.m. on Sunday.
2. WHERE THEY LEFT OFF – The Badger crew finished at No.13 at the 2025 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships.
From April 6 to May 28, Wisconsin moved from No. 17 to No. 12 in the rankings leading up to the three-day championships.
3. LAST YEAR IN CAMBRIDGE – At the 2024 Head of the Charles regatta, the Badgers placed 26th in the championship eight and 16th in the championship four race. The eight boat finished with a time of 14:53.174, and the four boat finished at 16:50.223.
4 NEW COACH, FAMILIAR FACE – Lowell McNicholas came back to his roots to join the team as a coaching assistant this time. McNicholas was previously assistant coach at the University of Iowa for their women's team. McNicholas rowed for the Badgers for four years. In year one, he helped lead the men's open four to a silver medal at the 2010 Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships. McNicholas also had a prior stop as a UW assistant coach.
