The Badgers welcome the Spartans to Madison

MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin men's soccer team (4-6-0, 1-4-0 Big Ten) will host the Michigan State Spartans (5-5-1, 2-3-1 Big Ten) at McClimon Soccer Complex on Friday, Oct. 17. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.

Here are five things to know about the Friday night match:

1 – IN-STATE SUCCESS – The Badgers took down Milwaukee, 2-1, during an in-state affair last Tuesday night. Ola Arntsen and Markie Hrvojevic both posted three points in the match to lead Wisconsin to victory. UW is now 22-16-9 in the all-time series against the Panthers.

2 – B1G RECOGNITION – Sophomore goalkeeper Matisee Hébert earned his third career Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week award for his shutout performance at Ohio State. UW's 1-0 win against the Buckeyes was Hébert's second shutout victory of the season, and first since the Badgers' 1-0 victory over Western Michigan on August 29.

3 – OH MY, OLA – Senior midfielder Ola Arntsen had himself a career-best week against Milwaukee and Rutgers. The Louisville transfer earned his first career three-point night against the Panthers last Tuesday, scoring the first goal of the game with a rocket shot from outside the box and adding an assist 12 minutes later. Arntsen added another two assists in the Badgers' 4-2 loss to Rutgers Friday night.

4 – SCOUTING THE SPARTANS – Wisconsin leads the all-time series against Michigan State with a 23-16-7 record. However, the Badgers have not won a match since 2018. The Spartans are 5-5-1 (2-3-1 Big Ten) so far this season, with two top-five ranked victories in September against No. 3 Indiana and No. 5 Michigan. Michigan State is led offensively by Peter Soudan and Miles Merritt, with three goals and two assists each. The Badgers will look to score against goalkeeper Zac Kelly, who has four shutouts this season and a 1.27 goals against average.

5 – HOW TO FOLLOW –  Friday's match will be played at the Badgers' McClimon Soccer Complex, with admission free to all. The contest will stream on B1G+, and live stats can be found at uwbadgers.com. Live updates will also be given on @BadgerMSoccer on X, as well as @badgermsoccer on Instagram.
